This is carried out for the purposes of issuing a certificate of fitness for competitive sports, in accordance with specific protocols in place for each sporting discipline, required pursuant to law by the sporting federations upon registration.
Sports Nutrition Service.
This provides a complete nutritional consultation to athletes of any discipline, beginning with assessing your nutritional health and optimising your body composition for specific sports. A customised diet programme is provided, based on the sporting activities (both training and competitive), work, studies and eating habits of individual athletes. In addition, where required, advice on correctly supplementing the diet with special food for sport and/or dietary supplements is provided.
Diet for wellness service.
This service is aimed at individuals who are overweight or obese and/or those with health issues (dyslipidaemia, diabetes), who would benefit from specific dietary treatment as well as physical activity. We provide a personalised diet plan based on medical, working and family requirements as well as any physical exercise routines.
A preliminary medical examination is conducted ,before a stress test is carried out, to those who are not in possession ofcertificate of fitness for competitive sports order to assess the health conditions and the absence of contraindications.The specialist visit, according to individual needs, is aimed at the general analysis of the medical aspects related to sporting agonistic or healthy sport, or to specific issues related to the subject (eg chronic fatigue, muscular pain, osteo-articular pain, difficulty retrieving etc.). According to the cases can be performed by the sports physician or traumatologist of the sport.
An examination aimed at detecting or resolving any pathological bone, muscle or tendon pain following trauma or resulting from functional over-training and errors in technique.
Examination and/or consultation for cardiac issues related to sporting activity.
This involves performing an electrocardiogram on an exercise bike (with increasing loads) during physical exercise, at limit and pushed until reaching muscle fatigue, in order to detect or exclude any disorders of cardiac function.
A dynamic ECG that continuously records cardiac activity for 24 hours, both at rest and during physical activity, in order to exclude abnormal heart rhythm (hypokinetic or hyperkinetic arrhythmias and conduction disorders).
Echocardiography comprises a group of non-invasive techniques based on ultrasonic emission in the range of 2 to 10 MHz. By echocardiography, the heart is shown in its entirety, this allowing to understand shapes and movement of the cardiac structures. This technique allows a diagnosis both from the valve and from the muscular point of view.
Thanks to the integration of static and dynamic baropodometric data and the work of chiropodist Gianluca Canzi of the Centro Ortopedico SNC (Orthopaedic Centre) in Milan, it’s now possible to create made-to-measure insoles that can improve the distribution of pressure that the sole of the foot exerts inside a shoe and, as a result, to improve comfort during long rides.
This looks at the medical and sporting aspects relating to teams as a whole: from evaluation of the group’s blood tests to monitoring training loads, the whole session is aimed at preventing injuries and maintaining high performance.
Determine body fat percentage and other anthropometric measurements, in order to establish optimal weight based on the sport practised or simply for a healthy lifestyle. By using skinfold method (measurement of subcutaneous fat), the ratio between lean body mass and fatty mass is calculated, an essential piece of information for monitoring individuals following particular diet plans or physical exercise programmes.
It’s carried out in combination with a functional assessment test.
This test is carried out whilst running on a treadmill in the laboratory or on the field for 6 minutes at a constant speed of 13.5km/h. By measuring the heart rate and concentration of lactate in the blood (by means of drawing a droplet from the earlobe), we can establish the athlete’s aerobic fitness and monitor changes that result from training.
An intermittent test carried out on a treadmill, exercise bike or on the field, which allows us to assess the athlete’s physiological response to high-intensity intermittent exercise. At the end of the exercise protocol, droplets of blood are drawn from the earlobe and measurements are taken, including pH, bicarbonate (the blood buffer system) and lactate levels in the blood. This test is important for assessing changes in the athlete’s fitness, particularly in team sports that involve high-intensity intermittent activity.
Explosive lower body strength is assessed by performing a number of jumps on a Kistler® dynamometric plate. The type of plate used can be operated both in the lab or transported to the training field and provides very accurate measurements of the strength, height and power of the vertical jump.
This test is based on a method developed in Mapei Sport laboratories. It consists of carrying out a set of jumps on a Kistler® dynamometric plate. This allows us to detect any asymmetries in lower body push-off and identify athletes at greater risk of lower body muscle injuries.
Isokinetic contraction strength assessment (Cybex©) at constant speed. This allows us to analytically verify muscular strength at various speeds during concentric and eccentric contractions. It also allows us to measure any differences between the right- and left-hand sides or assess imbalances between antagonist and agonist muscles. The data gathered can highlight any risk factors for injuries.
By using electrical stimulation of peripheral nerves, it is possible to calculate the athlete’s muscular ability to sustain intense exercise involving changes of direction (specific muscle strength). The test involves repeatedly making a set of direction changes and calculating, at the end of each set, neuromuscular efficiency of the quadriceps. This test also makes it possible to detect any upper body strength asymmetry when at rest and when fatigued.
This is a maximal test carried out whilst running on a treadmill in the laboratory and wearing a mask connected to a metabolimeter. The equipment allows us to determine the maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 max, the global index of cardiovascular and respiratory efficiency) and the relative anaerobic and ventilatory threshold. When taken repeatedly over time, the test allows us to monitor improvements in cardiovascular efficiency and identify training patterns based on heart rate (a key factor when creating customised training programmes).
A test carried out whilst running on a treadmill in the laboratory during incremental exercise to maximum in accordance with the Mader protocol. During the exercise, a set of measurements are taken in relation to the concentration of lactate in the blood (via subsequent droplets drawn from the earlobe) at increasing speed to establish the anaerobic threshold. The test is used to monitor the athlete’s level of fitness throughout the season and to identify training patterns with reference points based on heart rate and/or speed. It is also possible to obtain approximate estimations of half-marathon and marathon race times.
A test to assess upper body strength and power. With this type of test, carried out using increasing loads on a bench press (multipower), it is possible to calculate an athlete’s maximum upper body strength.
Using a purpose-built press, we can measure the lower body’s maximum strength in closed kinetic chain exercises during a voluntary isometric contraction.
A maximum sprint test over a 20-metre distance (or a chosen distance) in which time and speed are calculated in each second of the test, using an integrated photocell and radar system.
Aimed at teams, groups of athletes or individual athletes, it focuses on planning, testing and improving training loads to optimise performance and prevent over-training. The latter aspect is fundamental in the training process, and Mapei Sport has conducted significant research and gained extensive experience on the field with top-level competitive athletes in this area.
