The new season for Italy’s top skiers kicks off at the Mapei Sport Research Center. Following the successes achieved at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympic Games, the collaboration between the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) and the Varese-based sports medicine center—now approaching its 25th anniversary—continues to the mutual satisfaction of both parties.

With the home Olympics now behind them, the new goal is to be among the top performers on the world’s most prestigious slopes through 2030, the year in which FISI and Mapei Sport will take part in their seventh Olympic Games together—their fifth in a row—scheduled to take place in the French Alps. This month, athletes from the national alpine skiing team are heading to the center in Olgiate Olona to undergo their usual physical tests to optimize their athletic preparation for the coming winter.

“This partnership, which is incredibly valuable to us, is proceeding with the utmost synergy and a shared commitment to growth,” says Flavio Roda, president of the Italian Winter Sports Federation. “We are happy to continue working closely with a world-class center of excellence. Our intention is to further strengthen our collaboration, with the goal of further improving our athletes’ performance.”

“The top skiers on the Italian national team are undergoing—as has become tradition—a comprehensive program of physical and preventive analysis, including preventive health assessments with functional, symmetry, and control tests, advanced performance evaluations, and 3D biomechanical analyses. Physical monitoring, performance analysis, and injury prevention are key elements of this process, in which research and technology play a crucial role,” adds Claudio Pecci, CEO and medical director of the Mapei Sport Research Center.

“We can still picture the medals won by Federica Brignone, Giovanni Franzoni, Simone Deromedis, Sofia Goggia, Dominik Paris, and Federico Tomasoni, but it’s already time to test established champions and the talents of tomorrow once again. Research and development of tools and methods for innovation in athletic performance assessment will continue to guide our work,” continues Ermanno Rampinini, Chief Operating Officer and Head of the Human Performance Lab at Mapei Sport.

“Our partnership with Mapei Sport is a significant asset for our athletes, thanks to advanced technologies and scientific support for monitoring physical condition, analyzing performance data, and implementing prevention and assessment protocols for returning to competitive activity after an injury—all with the goal of maximizing each athlete’s potential. The tests conducted at Mapei Sport are essential for optimally tailoring training plans in the gym and on the track,” concludes Giuseppe Abruzzini, head of athletic trainers at FISI.
