The latest Cubetti di Sapere episod is dedicated to a strategy for trying to improve, optimise and speed up post-training recovery through cold water immersion.

«It consists of immersing oneself in a tub of water at 8-10 degrees for at least 6-8 minutes, ideally for 10′, with the lower limbs if one has worked mainly with those, and the upper limbs, if the training also involves the arms, at the end of the session» explains Andrea Bosio, head of the scientific research sector at the Mapei Sport Research Centre in Olgiate Olona (Varese, Italy).

«It is an increasingly common practice in both individual and team sports. An ad hoc pool is available in our centre: it takes a bit of courage to enter it, but the benefit, albeit small, is guaranteed. Athletes who have already tried it report that in the hours and days following the immersion they have a feeling of less fatigue and in the case of post-training muscular pain (DOMS, Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) they find that it disappears more quickly».
