Yesterday, 4 May, Ambrogio Beccaria\u2019s IMOCA returned to the water<\/strong> at the end of a day organised with pinpoint precision: after leaving the hangar in Lorient in the morning and fitting the keel, the launch took place with the afternoon tide<\/strong>. The lengthy process concluded with the mast being hoisted. A sequence of precise, almost ritualistic operations, marking the end of the technical \u2018winter\u2019 and the return to life at sea.<\/p>\n

\u00ab<\/i>I am very proud of the team\u2019s work<\/em>,\u2019 says Ambrogio<\/strong>, \u2018and I have confidence in the technical choices we have made. The initial results are impressive, particularly the weight reduction, and I really like the idea of having radically modified the boat to truly adapt it to my needs. But the most incredible thing is the energy the team has put into this project. This is undoubtedly the most extraordinary aspect for me: I\u2019ve never had a large team working for me, at most one or two people. Here, however, there are many of us and I feel a truly wonderful energy, both today and for the future. We\u2019ll be able to count on this in the coming years, and it will clearly be one of our team\u2019s strengths\u00bb.<\/i><\/em><\/p>\n

Behind this launch lie over six months of work. The boat has been improved, lightened and transformed<\/strong> \u2013 in particular with the relocation of the foil wells \u2013 to boost its performance ahead of the Italian skipper\u2019s first solo season on the IMOCA circuit.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Today we turn to a test that is as spectacular as it is strategic: the 90-degree test. The boat is deliberately tilted on the water to determine its centre of gravity. Suspended from the masthead, a dynamometer will measure its righting capacity, providing vital data for engineers and surveyors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The return to the water is not just about the technical aspects. \u201cAllagrande Mapei\u201d also boasts a new visual identity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u00ab<\/i>The new livery, designed with the support of designer Alberto Velardi, is much more than just aesthetics; it is the story of a project told through colours<\/em>\u201d says Simona Giorgetta, a member of the Mapei board of directors<\/strong> – Allagrande\u2019s luminous turquoise and Mapei\u2019s deep blue come together on the hull to face the ocean waves side by side. The number 37, which recalls the year of our foundation, 1937, serves as a reminder that achieving results requires passion, tenacity and constant commitment, whilst always keeping our eyes fixed on the future. It is precisely these values that have enabled the team to reach this important milestone in the project today, following months of intense work<\/em>\u00bb.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n

The aesthetic choice is also a functional one: paintwork reduced to a minimum, allowing the carbon fibres to show through beneath the thin layer of colour, to keep the weight down. A stylistic signature that is also found in the sails, which are minimalist, with only the logos standing out against the natural black of the material<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

With this new configuration and the technical optimisations that will be validated over the coming days, \u201cAllagrande Mapei\u201d is ready to return to the sea. \u00ab<\/i>I can\u2019t wait to get back out on the water! This weekend I spent my first night on board, though still in the shipyard, to oversee the curing of the foil well structures. After this launch, there\u2019s still a technical week to go, and I hope that the following week we\u2019ll finally be able to sail. The season has already begun, with my competitors busy in the 1000 Race, so inevitably the tension is rising a bit. I\u2019m really keen to get on board and properly test the effects of all these changes\u00bb<\/i>. For Ambrogio Beccaria, the IMOCA adventure has only just begun<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
