After announcing a\u00a0few months ago his entry into the IMOCA class<\/a>\u00a0and his ambition to participate in the Vend\u00e9e Globe 2028,\u00a0Ambrogio Beccaria reaches a new milestone in his project<\/b>. In Lorient, the Italian skipper\u00a0unveiled the visual identity of his boat, now renamed ALLAGRANDE MAPEI<\/b>, as he prepares to take part in his first official race under these new colors:\u00a0The Ocean Race Europe<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The new boat in Mapei colors<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n
“Seeing ALLAGRANDE MAPEI dressed in our colors today is deeply moving,”\u00a0<\/i>said Simona Giorgetta, member of Mapei\u2019s Board of Directors<\/b>.\u00a0<\/b>“This marks a new chapter in a story that began years ago when we met Ambrogio and his dream of offshore racing. Since then, we\u2019ve always believed in his exceptional talent and determination. Together, we\u2019ve built a strong partnership based on mutual trust and shared values.”<\/i><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Built by CDK Technologies,\u00a0the 60-foot monohull \u2013 winner of the 2023 Transat Jacques Vabre<\/b>\u00a0and 7th in the latest Vend\u00e9e Globe \u2013 is a boat with great potential.\u00a0Formerly known as VULNERABLE<\/b>, this next-generation foiler was designed by Antoine Koch and Finot-Conq, and expertly skippered by Thomas Ruyant from its launch in March 2023 until mid-July 2025.\u00a0Now, ALLAGRANDE MAPEI is set to begin a new chapter, racking up even more miles at sea<\/b>.<\/div>\n

\u201cThis boat is innovative because it deviates from the traditional \u2018scow\u2019 shapes,\u201d\u00a0<\/i>Ambrogio explains<\/b>. \u201cAntoine Koch opted for a fine bow, allowing for better water contact during skimming phases \u2013 those moments when the boat is neither fully in the water nor fully flying. It results in a hull with less raw power but much more seaworthiness.\u201d<\/i><\/div>\n

\u201cALLAGRANDE MAPEI already has excellent performance, especially downwind,\u201d\u00a0<\/i>he continues<\/b>.\u00a0\u201cWe have three years ahead of us to improve it, test solutions, validate them\u2026 No need to rush \u2013 we\u2019ll move step by step. The 2025 season is the perfect opportunity to get to know this new machine, understand where and how to improve. Everything will be done methodically and with care. As a trained naval engineer and with experience from Mini 6.50 and my custom-built Class40, I naturally want to put my mark on the boat \u2013 but I also know it must be done progressively.\u201d<\/i><\/i><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Science Onboard<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n
\n

As an offshore racing team,\u00a0Allagrande Mapei Racing has developed a deep awareness of the ocean\u2019s environmental fragility<\/b>. Living and sailing on the sea daily naturally makes them witnesses to these challenges.\u00a0Their environmental strategy is built around three pillars:\u00a0Science, Impact, and Awareness<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span>For The Ocean Race Europe 2025,\u00a0Ambrogio and his crew are launching their first scientific research project on microplastics, in partnership with Politecnico di Milano, which will oversee analysis and interpretation<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span>Throughout the race (August 10 \u2013 September 15, 2025), seawater will be filtered onboard to gain better understanding of this invisible but pervasive pollution. The program unfolds in three phases:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    \n
  1. Installation of the scientific equipment on board,<\/li>\n
  2. Data collection during the race,<\/li>\n
  3. Laboratory analysis in the fall.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    ALLAGRANDE MAPEI will be the only boat in the fleet equipped with a Microplastic Sampler branded Ocean Race<\/b>, a device capable of collecting plastic particles as small as 0.03 mm to 5 mm.\u00a0These particles are trapped by special filters<\/b>,\u00a0stored in sterile containers, and sent to a lab for further study<\/b>.<\/p>\n
