Matteo Moschetti is the first beautiful result of the most recent young project promoted by the Mapei Sport Research Center together with Trek Segafredoto raise young talents in the cycling world. The 21 years old Polartec Kometarider, who started his first season among the professionals with 6 successes, has secured a contract with the American team led by Luca Guercilena for the next two seasons.

«I’m really happy for how my adventure in the highest category started. I am the living proof that this project is serious and effective. I’m realizing my dream thanks to Mapei and the teams in which I raced. I am the first to realize this wonderful occasion, but I hope to become just one of many» tells us the rising star of Italian cycling.

Matteo relies in the center of Olgiate Olona (VA) for physical tests and preparation for the past four years, since he spent the Under 23 with Viris Vigevano Team. «I’m really lucky to work with Andrea MorelliMatteo AzzoliniMassimo Induni and all the available, competent and reliable specialists that I and my teammates can count on. If I started out so strongly, I owe it to their professionalism and the experience they put me at my disposal to face a demanding season. Living in Robecco sul Naviglio (MI), I am only 30 km from the center and I can go there whenever there is a need. I remember the first year as an amateur, as they had to study my training program based on the short time school commitments gave me. After maturity we could start working more seriously and we saw a gradual improvement. They gave me a working method. The preparation always starts with the tests at the center, starting point to plan the most important appointments in the following 365 days».

Before defending the colors of the World Tour team, he has many goals to achieve with the Continental “nursery” of Trek Segafredo. For Matteo and Polartec Kometa, which at the behest of Alberto Contador and Ivan Basso relies completely on Mapei Sport, the key goal of 2018 is Under 23 Giro d’Italia. «Personally, being a sprinter, I point to stage victories. For the general classification I am too heavy (smiles, ed). Last winter, for the first time, I had the chance to train in the heat of Spain between November and January. This factor has impacted on such a good season start. Before the pink race we will have another training camp in Valtellina. The altitude work will allow us to present ourselves ready for a demanding race».

Six victories in just over a month prove that Moschetti is ready to land in the top series. «I’m really happy with how I’m experiencing the jump in the higher category. A year ago, after the victory of the U23 Italian Championship, I took part in a training camp in France in July with Trek Segafredo, which allowed me to touch the professional world. I was one of the 20 guys from all over the world, chosen by the team selections carried out also through Mapei Sport tests. In August I had the opportunity to face an internship and to participate in some Trek Segafredo races. I have to thank Luca Guercilena for the trust he gave me and Polartec Kometa for the possibility of growing without pressure. And thanks to Mapei Sport, a glue between the two realities, which will continue to be my point of reference for preparation».
